Fingers crossed that this will be like or better than their Left 4 Dead series…
Support ended for Turtle Rock’s last title Evolve at the end of 2016. As the company didn’t own the IP, they vowed to move onto other things as they had “lots of stuff in the works”. One of those projects was revealed as a new free-to-play FPS with Perfect World Entertainment, but little had been heard about it since its announcement in 2016. Well, it turns out that it’s cancelled, but Turtle Rock hasn’t been resting on their laurels. Instead, they’ve now teamed up with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to reveal a new title, Back 4 Blood .
Back 4 Blood is a co-op zombie first-person shooter “with new features we aren’t ready to talk about just yet”. Turtle Rock’s most famous franchise is Left 4 Dead , of course, but despite the similarities in name and theme, the new title is a “brand new, original IP”. The team aims to take the best features of their successful L4D series and and new features that will bring it into the modern age.
The game will have a campaign and PVP modes, but these will not include battle royale. Any other details are scarce right now, but the team is looking to expand as they create their new game. Phil Robb, Turtle Rock’s Co-founder and Creative Director, said:
We are not resting on any past laurels. Our goal is to take all we’ve learned and push forward. We know that’s a tall order. We’re growing the team considerably because we’re stepping up to the biggest challenge in this studio’s history. We know this title has to stand out and we fully intend to make that happen.
In regards to the cancellation of the team’s previous project with Perfect World Entertainment, the team were able to say very little apart from “both parties decided to move on”. Instead, console players will have to look forward to the release of Back 4 Blood on Xbox One in the future.
