This Year's Call of Duty is Rumoured to be Called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

It’s been rumoured for quite a while that this year’s iteration of the Call of Duty series will be a new Modern Warfare title, and various reports today are suggesting that it will be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare .

Publisher Activision has already proved that numbering games can be difficult, using IIII as the roman numerals for last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s marketing instead of IV, so there is the possibility that they’ve given up on using the number four completely.

The rumour was originally posted by Twitter user @LongSensationYT and was given some more weight when Kotaku’s News Editor, Jason Schreier, confirmed that it is indeed true.

I can confirm this is true, and that it's hilarious. The first one was "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" so obviously the fourth one is "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare." Video games are absurd

With Infinity Ward taking their turn at developing this year’s Call of Duty release, a new game in the Modern Warfare fan favourite sub-series would make the most sense, especially considering that the studio’s last two outings, Call of Duty: Ghosts (the one with the dog) and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (the one everyone downvoted on YouTube), are the lowest rated Call of Duty games on Metacritic.

Not to be mistaken for 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare or 2017’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to be a whole new release, and you can expect to hear more about it within the next month, possibly alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered.
