Back4Blood

Anyone else in the group looking to do a Back4Blood group?
Whisker and I played last night, really fun and challenging game.
If you liked Left 4 Dead - then B4B is no different.

There are a few of us that frequent the Discord that are playing. There is even a designated channel for B4B in the Discord as of 10/14. I already had h2daddy in my friends list, I added CowTipperTom to it now. My Xbox gt is YggBjorn

Got both of you added to my friends list.

Back 4 Blood is one of an increasingly large number of games that offers crossplay, allowing you to jump into games with your friends on different platforms than your own, whether you’re playing on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, or Windows PC.

In Polygon’s Back 4 Blood crossplay guide, we’ll teach you how to enable crossplay on your runs — or how to disable it if you want to narrow your group parameters to only your platform of choice. We’ll also go over how you can invite your crossplay friends to join you on your missions.

HOW TO ENABLE BACK 4 BLOOD CROSSPLAY

Back 4 Blood’s default setting is to enable crossplay, so if you haven’t touched any settings for your matchmaking preferences, you’re already good to go! However, if you think you messed up at some point or want to turn it off, the crossplay setting is easy to find if you know where to look.

You won’t find the crossplay setting in the default menu. No, instead you need to …

  1. Open the Play menu in Fort Hope, where you start a new run and normally matchmake with other players.
  2. Click on the option called “Preferences.”
  3. You’ll see crossplay at the bottom of the list. Choose on or off, depending on what you’re looking for, and exit the menu.

HOW TO INVITE FRIENDS TO BACK 4 BLOOD CROSSPLAY

Now, if you’re playing on Xbox and want to invite a friend on PC — or a similar situation involving any combination of different platforms — there is a small hoop you’ll need to jump through.

When you first logged in to Back 4 Blood, the game assigned you a unique username (your platform username with some added numbers at the end), which you’ll find in the social screen.

Have your friends tell you their username and you can add them to your Back 4 Blood -specific friends list by pausing, hitting the Social menu, and typing in their unique username. This will let you invite them to games no matter what platform they’re on.

Back 4 Blood was recently released, giving Left 4 Dead fans something truly similar to play. Made by the same developer Turtle Rock Studios, Back 4 Blood is a strong spiritual successor to the Left 4 Dead series despite some lingering concerns about the game.

Turtle Rock Studios does seem to be responsive to fan desires. Although the game hasn’t been out too long, the developer is issuing a hotfix that addresses some concerns about Back 4 Blood’s difficulty. This hotfix is being applied to servers as they roll out throughout today, October 14, and so there’s no patch for PC or console users. Overall, however, these changes should make the campaign a little easier.

Essentially, in response to “some of the concerns regarding the challenges presented by some difficulties,” the Roaming Special Spawn rate is being decreased on all difficulties. It doesn’t address by how much, but this doesn’t refer to all or specific boss battles either. Essentially, various Back 4 Blood zombie types like Tallboys, Snitches, and so on are being decreased so that fans are not overwhelmed by them in each battle. As important elements of the game, however, it stands to reason that there will still be plenty—now just slightly less than before.

Also, specifically for the Back 4 Blood level “Blue Dog Hollow: The Sound of Thunder,” Turtle Rock is adjusting the supply point earning rates “to better account for level repeats.” Turtle Rock doesn’t note when more changes to single-player or campaign are coming, but it also listed some changes to Back 4 Blood’s PvP Swarm Mode. These include the following:

  • Bruisers – Max Health reduced from 850 to 800, damage reduced from 20 to 15, burst delay lengthened to 3 instead of 2.65, and their weakspot multiplier increased to 1.65 from 1.5
  • Tallboy – Damage increased from 15 to 20
  • Hocker – Project Speed decreased to 2500 from 300 and cooldown increased to 7 from 6.
  • Stinger – Projectile spread reduced from 30 to 30 and its speed increased to 5500 from 5000.

These changes will likely help better balance Back 4 Blood in the PvP and PvE mode, but many fans are likely awaiting Turtle Rock Studios’ fix for solo mode progression issues. For anyone who may be unaware, there is no stat tracking, achievements, or anything like that when playing solo. Players cannot even unlock new Back 4 Blood characters unless they are playing online. Turtle Rock Studios is aware of the issue and working on a fix, but beyond that, no update has been offered as of this writing

Played it some over the weekend and I learned some stuff.

  1. Try to find the free random basic cards hidden in the levels, they start to add some good solid support to your run.

  2. You are better off completing a run in one go rather than restarting from a checkpoint. During a run you can find random basic cards that activate upon finding them. When you restart a checkpoint you won’t have the luxury of all the cards you could’ve found along the way. You will also not have the luxury of the team boost items that you could have purchased from the previous missions for that checkpoint.

  3. Be aware that if you do start from a checkpoint, you will start with a some copper in your pocket and your characters starter weapons. You will be able to purchase some weapons and attachments in the store, and you might get lucky with a solid choice, but you will be stuck with what RNGeesus blesses you with.

  4. The order of the deck is important but isn’t entirely set in stone. At the start of a level you can choose from the next five available cards in your deck, so you can skip over some to activate a card that is better suited to deal with the level or the Corruption cards in play.

  5. The 1500 copper team upgrades you can buy in the store are very nice to have. They might boost the team’s stamina or health, add more space to carry more items, or upgrade the items you can carry. Usually well worth a purchase and they stay with you for the length of that run.

  6. Choose the characters that best suit your play style and build a deck to go with it. I plan on creating multiple decks to suit my favorite characters. If someone beats me to my first character choice I will have a second, third, and fourth option (or even more).

  7. If you find ammo tag it and call it out. You can tag items, weapons, ammo, ridden, doors, and general waypoints. It helps to guide your team to stashes, safehouses, or big baddies. You can tag with the Left Shoulder Button on Xbox.

  8. Grab ammo that you don’t need so you can drop it for your teammates later on when ammo is scarce. You can use the Window button (looks like two squares) on Xbox to open your inventory and drop full stacks of ammo with the Right Trigger.

  9. The map layouts don’t change, but the spawn points and rates for ridden and special ridden do so you can’t just memorize where the enemy is hiding and get the drop on them. You must stay frosty and keep your head on a swivel.

I have been having a blast playing! If you see me on feel free to join me. YggBjorn#3272 is my Unique ID for B4B.

You can double tap the Start button (aka the hamburger button, the button with stacked horizontal lines) to use text chat. Not advised in the middle of a horde.

I am cultivating a players list on the Discord. Please send me your B4B unique ID (Found in the top right of the Social menu) and I will get you added to the list.
